What is the process?
1. Schedule an Appointment
Reach out to us to schedule your initial consultation. We will discuss your concerns, answer your questions, and learn more about how we can best support your family.2. Complete an Evaluation
We will conduct a comprehensive evaluation to understand your child's unique strengths and areas for growth.3. Make a Treatment Plan
Based on the evaluation results, we will design a personalized, targeted treatment plan with specific, engaging goals tailored entirely to your child’s needs.4. Grow & Monitor Progress
As your child learns and grows, we continuously track their progress. Every 6 to 12 months, we complete a formal re-evaluation and review your child's goals. This ensures successful, long-term outcomes and allows us to adjust the plan as your child conquers new milestones.Protocols & Procedures Questions

Yes, the therapy process at Soundside Therapy begins with a comprehensive evaluation. This ensures we are delivering effective, tailored treatment.
The only exception is if you have had an outside evaluation completed by another licensed provider within the past year.

Yes! Soundside Therapy proudly accepts the Step Up For Students scholarship, specifically the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities (FES-UA).
Because speech-language pathology is an approved specialized service under the FES-UA program, you can use your student's Education Savings Account (ESA) funds to cover our therapy services.
If you plan to use this scholarship, please let us know during your initial consultation so we can help you coordinate the necessary documentation and billing through the Step Up platform.

Our sessions are typically 60 minutes long, split into 45 minutes of direct treatment and 15 minutes of parent consultation, though session times may vary depending on the setting. We spend the first part working through fun, engaging activities tailored to your child's needs. We use the final 15 minutes to collaborate with you, answering questions and sharing practical ways to support your child's progress at home.
Therapeutic Service Questions
-
The duration of therapy varies for every child. It depends on several factors, including the number of speech sounds we are working on, the frequency of therapy sessions, and how often you practice at home. Some children achieve their goals in a few months, while others with more complex speech patterns may need longer, consistent support. During our initial evaluation, we will provide a clearer roadmap tailored specifically to your child.
-
This is a very common concern, but research shows the exact opposite is true! Implementing AAC does not hinder or stop speech development; instead, it frequently supports and encourages verbal language. AAC reduces communication frustration, models consistent language patterns, and provides a reliable bridge for your child to express themselves while their verbal speech skills continue to develop.
-
While it is completely natural to want to help your child when they are struggling, it is generally best not to finish their sentences or tell them to "slow down" or "take a breath." Interrupting or offering advice can sometimes increase the pressure they feel. Instead, the most helpful thing you can do is maintain relaxed eye contact, listen patiently to what they are saying rather than how they are saying it, and give them the time they need to finish their thought.

It is common to confuse the two, but they require very different therapeutic approaches:
Articulation is a motor issue. The child struggles with the physical movement of their tongue or lips to make a specific sound (e.g., struggling to make the "R" sound).
Phonology is a language rule issue. The child can physically make the sounds, but their brain is grouping sounds together incorrectly and simplifying the rules of speech.
